Training Night Instructions

Normal Operating Procedure for Friday Night Training Sessions.

All participants in sessions must already be members via the online Surfing England Portal. This is a fundamental requirement to ensure you are safe in the water and that we as a club are insured when taking you in.

First Session (Beginner Childs session): –

  • This session is a soft board session and we ask all surfers to have either a rented or personal soft board for this session. These can be hired from both Zuma Jays and The Cabin in town.
  • Parents are asked to arrive in Summerlease car park at 5.30 pm to sign their children into the Kids Beginner session.
  • Please try to queue safely in front of the trailer being mindful of traffic and keeping well spaced. Despite the so called “freedom day” restrictions being lifted, we want all families to feel safe when queuing to sign in for sessions.
  • Each session will remain at £1 a session and we will be accepting both cash and cashless payment when possible.
  • Please enter the trailer on the left steps and sign in, receive your coloured rash vest and then come down the right steps.
  • As soon as you have signed in, then head down to the top of Summerlease beach and congregate in your coloured rash vest groups. This means that if we have a identified COVID case from the session, we can inform the surfers in the specific coloured group to self isolate following government guidelines, rather than having to inform the whole list of participants.
  • Once all participants are signed in then you will me met at the top of the beach by the head coach and assigned your surf lifeguards who will be supervising your group in the session.
  • We will then endeavour to maintain separation for each group during the session when ever possible (conditions and tide dependant)
  • The first session will finish at 6.50pm to return to the trailer around 7.00pm.

Second Session(Adult and Intermediate/Advanced Child session): –

  • Surfers can ride both soft and hard boards in this session. If you don’t have your own board then surfers can hire boards from both Zuma Jays and The Cabin in town.
  • Parents and any adult surfers are asked to arrive in Summerlease car park at 6.30 pm to sign into the Second session.
  • Please try to queue safely in front of the trailer being mindful of traffic and keeping well spaced. Despite the so called “freedom day” restrictions being lifted, we want all families to feel safe when queuing to sign in for sessions.

COVID Symptoms: –

If you or your child are experiencing any of the governments COVID symptoms then please do not attend a training session and take a test to ensure you do not have COVID before returning to the next possible session.

If you or your child discover you have COVID then please contact us via our email at budewaveridersclub@hotmail.com . Please identify the date you/they attended the last training session and we will then inform those surfers who were in group with you.

Group Sizes: –

Each session will be capped on the appropriate ratio related to the number of lifeguards available each session. As you are all aware we are a voluntary club with lifeguards volunteering their time. We will follow surfing Englands ratio guidance of surfers to lifeguard and if the numbers of surfers exceed this ratio we will have to turn surfers away to ensure we keep both our participants and coaches safe in the water.

Cancelation of Sessions: –

The club reserves the right to cancel a training session due to surf conditions, pollution warnings or lack of lifeguard provision. We will endeavour to cancel a session on Friday morning to ensure no family hires equipment prior to a session. Cancellation of sessions will be posted on all our social media platforms and through Email.
